Auntie Yang’s Great Soybean Picnic

by Ginnie Lo, Illustrated by Beth Lo
Lee & Low Books

Picture book design and art direction for a title featuring unusual media. Working with the editor and illustrator, NeuStudio reviewed the illustrations for consistency, fit and best practices in children’s book design. The media, ceramic illustration on plates, presented specific book design challenges from the cover to the interior. Curved type and simple design let the artwork shine.

NeuStudio designed the picture book cover and interior pages, and provided the printer-ready materials for the jacket, case wrap and interior pages.

The Story of Series

Lee & Low Books

This series repurposes backlist picture book biographies by editing the text and adding background material in sidebars to bring the stories to chapter book readers. We layout each new title based on the existing series design, using the illustrations from the picture book in new ways to support the edited and expanded text. The sidebars integrate photo and historical reference materials.

Only the Mountains Do Not Move

by Jan Reynolds

The design for this title is simple with bright colors and full-bleed photos. Working with the editor, NeuStudio created page layouts that told the story of the Maasai and their relationship to their land. We retouched the photos as necessary. NeuStudio designed the cover, interior pages, and glossary. Printer ready files were created for the the jacket, case wrap and interior pages.
